The Last Warmth · Clint Howard · Pastel

You know there’s more in you than what’s making it onto the paper.

You’ve taken workshops, watched demonstrations, and spent hours at the easel. You’ve learned a lot. Yet your paintings still feel unpredictable.

Some come together beautifully. Others become muddy, overworked, or lose the feeling that made you want to paint them.

You might see what’s wrong without knowing how to fix it. Or feel like your skills are puzzle pieces that occasionally fit, but too often leave you wondering what you’re missing.

Master Class is a personalized 6-month program that helps you connect those pieces and understand what to work on next.

Your personal path toward stronger, more expressive paintings.

Your work, your strengths, and your artistic goals shape your development plan.

Using the Pastel Workshop CRAFT Method, we’ll examine what’s working in your paintings, identify what’s holding them back, and give your practice a clear focus.

FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS YOU’LL RECEIVE:

A personalized development plan

Specific priorities, exercises, and assignments that give you direction at the easel.

In-depth courses

Clear instruction connected to the skills you need to strengthen.

Thoughtful critique

Understand why a painting works, where it struggles, and what to practice next.

Mentorship

Guidance as you explore your artistic voice and make decisions about your work.

Live one-on-one coaching

Bring your questions, share your wins and your struggles. Get helpful advice and guidance.

A supportive community

Share your paintings, ask questions, and find encouragement from artists at every level in Pastel Workshop on Skool.

Over time, you’ll work toward more confident choices, a recognizable style, and a cohesive body of work that expresses what you see and feel.

Keep your momentum at the easel.

It’s easier to make time for painting when you know what you’re working toward.

Master Class gives you clear goals, focused assignments, and specific deadlines to help you follow through. Personalized guidance makes your next steps clearer, while coaching and community offer encouragement, fresh inspiration, and a place to celebrate progress.

Plus, spend less energy wondering where to begin and constantly reworking, and more focused time making work that matters to you.

Clear instruction. Meaningful breakthroughs.

What artists say about Clint’s existing courses, critiques, and community:

“I’ve been painting for 6 years - teaching myself and trying to understand and de-mystify. And then, with your courses and this group, it’s like everything just becomes understandable and clear in less than a month. A big ‘aha-feeling’! So thank you, once again.”
Charlotta
“Great class! Something finally clicked and everywhere I went after watching the class, I started thinking about the composition of what I was seeing and how to paint it. Very cool!”
Paula
“Thank you so much for this critique. It's been incredibly helpful and I have understood many things. I didn't expect this way, and it's phenomenal.”

90DAYS

The Clear Plan Guarantee

Put in the practice. Gain a clearer path. I stand behind that.

It’s reasonable to wonder whether another investment in your art will help. Especially when you’ve taken classes before and still felt unsure what to do next.

Here’s my commitment to you:

Show up at the easel, complete your personalized assignments, and submit your work for feedback. By the end of your first 90 days, you’ll have a clear understanding of:

  • Your greatest strengths: What’s already working and what you can build on.
  • What’s holding your paintings back: The areas that need your attention.
  • Your personal direction: A vision for where to go next and a plan to guide your practice.

If by the end of 90 days you don’t feel you have significantly more clarity and direction, or we don’t see meaningful improvement in your work, I’ll give you a full refund.

Your first 90 days establish direction. The full 6 month program gives you time to practice, explore, and work toward a stronger artistic voice and a cohesive body of work.

Every Master Class membership includes your own Studio — a private online workspace where your assignments, assessments, progress, and sessions all live in one place.

The CRAFT Method

What makes Master Class different

Most programs hand every artist the same material and hope it fits, leaving you to try to fit the puzzle pieces together. Master Class is dynamically shaped by your paintings, your strengths, and your goals. Six full months of personalized feedback, focused development, and transformational mentorship.

It begins with the CRAFT Method, a clear framework for looking closely at your work. Regular assessments identify what’s already strong in your paintings and pinpoint what’s holding them back, so you always know what to work on next.

Then your mentor works with you through the Studio and live check-ins, turning those insights into a personalized plan. Focused exercises, courses, and critique build on your strengths and strengthen what needs attention, so your development is meaningful and focused instead of scattered.

And you’re never learning to paint like someone else. You’re discovering your unique style: the choices, subjects, and voice that make your work recognizably yours.

See your work clearly

The CRAFT Method examines Concept, Relationships, Accuracy, Framework, and Texture, revealing both your strengths and what holds your paintings back.

A plan built around you

Your mentor turns the assessment into a personalized development plan you follow step by step inside the Studio.

Guidance as you grow

Assignments, critique, and coaching keep your plan moving, with clear next steps every time you come to the easel.

Your style, discovered

Purposeful development adds up to a voice of your own — work that looks and feels unmistakably yours.

Other programs teach everyone the same.  Master Class guides, develops, and points you down the right path for you.

You don’t have to arrive with everything figured out.

Master Class is designed for intermediate to advanced pastel artists with a few years of experience who are ready to grow through purposeful practice and personalized feedback.

Bring your uneven results, your questions, and your hopes for your work. We’ll use them to build your path forward.

Whether you want to exhibit, sell your paintings, or simply feel proud of what you create, your artistic goals matter here.

“One of the best instructions on demystifying color I’ve ever seen!”
Chris
“Honestly Clint, I've watched a lot of pastellists paint since I started painting myself and your courses are by far are the very best!!! Thank you for what you are doing for the pastel community!!!”
Kelly
“I just finished this course and it really made many things clearer. I have now to train... Many thanks again, Clint!”
Isabelle
“Clint’s critique and explanations regarding mountain colors are fascinating and eye-opening; after taking Clint’s course on color (which I highly recommend), I had a real ‘aha!’ moment... thank you so much, @Clint Howard, for your fantastic courses and critiques!”
Kathrin
“I just finished the FREE course C. R. A. F. T. under the classroom tab and found it to contain so much valuable information! I feel much better prepared to constructively critique my own work as well as others now. If, like me, you’re new to this group, I highly encourage you to take advantage of this course! Thanks, Clint, for putting together such helpful information in an understandable format!”
Diane
“I have taken many good workshops over zoom and learned a lot, but I have never learned as much from a workshop as I did from Clint’s workshop on how to paint water. Clint’s easy to understand explanations of the physics of how water, atmosphere, and light work, how the eyes see the world, and how to paint what we see in 3D in 2D was both interesting and very helpful to my understanding of how to paint better pictures. I will definitely be signing up for more workshops by Clint Howard.”

What you’ll experience in Master Class

Purposeful practice. Personalized to you.

Know what to practice when you step up to the easel.

Sometimes you can see what’s wrong with a painting, but knowing what to do about it is another matter.

Your personalized development plan connects that challenge with focused artistic exercises. Based on your assessments, critiques, and goals, I’ll recommend practice that helps you understand a specific problem, explore possible solutions, and bring what you discover into your paintings.

You might work on:

  1. 01Composition studies to explore stronger arrangements before committing to a painting.
  2. 02Value exercises to simplify a scene and strengthen the relationships between light and dark.
  3. 03Color harmony studies to test palettes and become more confident choosing colors.
  4. 04Mark-making exercises to develop control, vary your marks, and express more with your pastel sticks.
  5. 05Shape and edge studies to improve accuracy, create depth, and guide the viewer’s attention.
  6. 06Expressive studies to explore what you feel about a subject and how to communicate it.
  7. 07Small painting series to investigate recurring choices and discover what makes your work feel like yours.

+

Plus many more

The library doesn’t stop here.

New courses are added every month, so the next skill your paintings need is usually already waiting for you.

A new course every month

Learn it. Practice it. Bring it into your own work.

These five courses offer more than 12 hours of instruction, with additional courses available in the library.

Your development plan helps you focus on the lessons most relevant to your work. Then personalized assignments, critique, and coaching help you put that understanding into practice.

Personal guidance. Shared discoveries.

Keep growing with feedback, conversation, and community.

Working on your own can make it hard to see your progress or figure out why a painting isn’t coming together. Master Class gives you opportunities to ask questions, get a fresh perspective, and connect with artists who understand the challenges and satisfaction of working in pastel.

Live one-on-one mentorship

Bring your questions, challenges, and discoveries into live conversations with me. We’ll talk through artistic decisions, explore ideas, and connect what you’re learning with what’s happening in your paintings.

You’ll receive direct feedback about what to do next to keep you moving down the path towards your own artistic goals.

Critiques that help you move forward

Understand what’s working in your paintings and where a change could make a meaningful difference. My critiques explain the reasoning behind the feedback and give you practical direction for your next steps.

Together, we’ll connect those observations with your development plan, so you know what to practice and why. You’ll also build your ability to assess your own work and make decisions with greater confidence.

A community that understands your practice

As a Master Class student, you’ll be part of the Pastel Workshop community, where you can share your work, ask questions, celebrate progress, and connect with other pastel artists who are on the same quest.

It’s a place to bring the painting you’re proud of and the one you’re still figuring out. Encouragement, shared experience, and thoughtful conversation can help you return to the easel with fresh energy.

Meet your mentor, Clint Howard

I’m a pastel landscape artist, the founder of Pastel Workshop, and a teacher who loves helping artists make sense of what happens at the easel.

I started painting with pastels in 2023.

That’s right… not that long ago.

And, yet, within just a few years, I have achieved IAPS Master Circle recognition, PSA Signature membership, and American Tonalist Society Signature Artist status and many awards, including the top award in the 2026 Pastel 100 international competition. I’m also represented by galleries, and sell my work privately.

Through my Pastel Workshop Community, and my Pastel Workshop YouTube channel, I teach artists how to understand their choices, strengthen their paintings, and express what first moved them about a subject, in clear and understandable ways.

In Master Class, that teaching becomes personal. We’ll look closely at your work, plan for your goals, and turn what we discover into practical next steps. My role is to help you recognize your strengths, address the places where you’re struggling, and develop a voice of your own.

In short, I want to take you on the journey I have traveled.
